Chapter 1-Kinematics-O-level Phy-Part 1 of 4
Scalar and Vector Quantities
Scalar quantities-Has magnitude only
Vector quantities- has magnitude & direction
1.Distance and displacement
Distance is the total length covered by a moving object without taj=king into consideration the direction in which the body is moving.
Displacement is the distance moved along a straight line in a specified direction.
example:
2 boys walked from a point A to point B.
Distance between the 2 points depends on the path chosen to travel between the 2 points. There may be an infinite number of paths. However, there is only 1 displacement between 2 points. It is along a straight line joining the starting and finishing points. It is the shortest possible route from A to B
NOTE: This has been a very short tutorial compared to what i plan to give all my 'fans' if this blog turns out to be popular.I shall continue with the whole syllabus if i get a good response!!!
